Our history
At the beginning of 1980, Jean-Michel Borne and Pierre Jouishomme, two young Lyon musicians impassioned of bicycle and rock n' roll create La Parasolerie, a studio located in a former store of... Parasolerie, a studio located in a former parasol shop, rue Burdeau, on the slopes of the Croix-Rousse. At first on a 4-track tape, then 8, then 16 (great luxury), they recorded many bands of the region: Marie et les Garçons, Ganafoul, Starshooter, Carte de Séjour... At this time, Jean-Michel and Pierre themselves founded a power trio, Les Redoutables, with whom they opened for the Rolling Stones at the Parc de Gerland in 1982, the very first concert they played at the stadium. Two other Lyon studios that have crossed the decades were also created at this time: Miroslav Pilon by Franck Pitiot, and Les Producteurs by André Manoukian and Philippe Viennet.
Jean-Michel trained in sound and image and the studio began to work for producers, agencies and advertisers in the Lyon region. A few actors test themselves at the microphone and come to leave audio cassettes as demos: the beginnings of the Lyons casting!
In the 90s, the two partners found Roselend, a French rock band that tours well, with a title in the top 50 and a few TV appearances, including the famous Taratata. In 1995, the structure changed to be called ANATOLE. For the connoisseurs, an anatole is a sequence of musical chords in a major key, mainly used in jazz.
The first mission of Studio Anatole is the composition of music for producers, agencies and advertisers, but also for the little ones: Pierre and Jean-Mi release about ten albums for children! The 90s also saw the advent of digital technology, the Macintosh G3 and the transition to other means of communication and production...
In 2000, the demand for voice recordings took off sharply, forcing the company to move downtown to larger premises. At the time, Lyon was the national hub of the creative industries, with a massive implantation of the market's leading video game companies, such as Infogrammes/Atari and Electronic Arts. The video game era began and in ten years, the studio tripled in size and doubled the number of AAA games (Medal of Honor, Need For Speed, Battlefield, Burnout...). At the same time, Miroslav Pilon opened an auditorium dedicated to dubbing and brought in a good number of projects: the ground was fertile and the number of actors trained in voice work increased seriously.
2010 marked a harder period following various accidents and serious health problems that hurt the studio's heart. The activity slows down but to better be reborn! Tim, Jean-Michel's son, gradually takes the reins of Anatole. He develops new activities, continues to fight for the growth of the region's cast, and understands that dubbing and localization will be the key to the structure's development. Several hundred hours of programs will be localized in French in the growing Quais de Saône studios.
In 2020, Tim is joined by Vincent, his long-time friend, who is tasked with building a new broadcast studio complex that meets all the safety and capacity standards required to work with the entertainment giants. The €3M financing needed to build these studios will be completed by the end of 2020.
It is also in 2020 that the studio team creates BLYNDa new kind of audio content production company, which produces high quality immersive audio series by adapting titles from comics, books, video games, etc. By developing its own iOS and Android application, BLYND wants to control the entire life chain of its productions, from their creation to their broadcasting. The bet is on!
2023 marks the beginning of a new era. The new studios opened their doors at the beginning of the year, and Miroslav Pilon joined the ANATOLE group. Today, spread over 1500 m2, with 20 studios of all sizes equipped with the latest technologies, ANATOLE is one of the largest studio complexes in France, serving producers, distributors, advertisers, agencies, streaming platforms...
The adventure continues.
OUR QUALITIES (in all humility)...
...AND OUR COMMITMENTS
Today, it seems essential to integrate into our way of working, interacting and thinking about our work, values and commitments that resemble us, that carry us and that carry a message
For our teams
Today, it is essential to integrate, in our way of working and in the interactions between our employees, values and commitments that are similar to ours and that bring us together. Our goal is to move forward in a spirit of benevolence, respect for others and acceptance of each other's values. At Anatole, there are no exorbitant salary differences between juniors and seniors, no distinction between men and women.
Over the years, Anatole has been able to build a horizontal management style, without abusive hierarchical pressure and with a close relationship between the employee and the manager. We do not condone long days, unbelievable working hours or excessive hierarchical pressure.
Starting in 2023, a portion of the profits will be distributed equally to all employees of the structure.
At Anatole, we have always put our trust in young people: school leavers, work-study students and interns. For 60% of our teams, Anatole is their first employer when they leave school. Ongoing training is also part of the studio's DNA. Even the most experienced seniors need to be continually trained in all aspects of the business. Masterclasses, continuous training, small tips... All the employees exchange and pass on their knowledge, talents and specificities to each other.
For the planet
As an energy-intensive post-production company serving the entertainment industry, we are by far indispensable to the survival of the human race and the preservation of our planet.
The first action we could take would be to stop, to change our activity. What should we do, Anatole and all the other "non-vital" businesses? Can we consider that entertainment is not an absolute necessity? What would the hundreds, thousands, of intermittent workers, actors, technicians, authors, musicians, who work tirelessly to make us dream, do?
Stopping is not an option. So we continue, but we continue well.
At our level, acting for the environment means: telecommuting, less paper, a fair control of studio temperatures, management of computer equipment, less email, less storage, less business travel, but also choosing clients, projects and programs that share our values and convictions.
Our impact depends on the internal awareness with a valorization of the actions carried out by each employee. Part of our profits will be donated to one or more associations that are committed to the fight for the climate.
For our partners
We are committed to efficiency, transparency, sincerity and good humor .
We propose fair rates, in accordance with the regulations and agreements in force in the profession. We make sure that the contracts of transfer of rights, the contracts of employment, edit the DPAEs so that everyone works in good standing. We make sure that the legal work necessary for the integration of music and other copyrighted elements in the programs is set up and respected to the letter. We strive to maintain the highest level of quality and never deliver a project if we are not satisfied with the result within the time frame of the project. We strive to update and maintain the hardware, facilities, and software to provide a creative work environment that is always state-of-the-art.
