Kimi Ni Todoke tells the story of a young girl named Sawako Kuronuma, who on entering high school promises herself one thing: to make friends. However, many obstacles stand between her and her classmates. Indeed, Sawako has an appearance that leaves (almost) everyone perplexed. With her pale skin, long black hair and dark eyes, Sawako becomes the one to be shunned, feared and mocked. What's more, her classmates nicknamed her Sadako (in reference to the film Ring) due to rumors that Sawako had the gift of talking to ghosts! But even though perseverance is her strong point, her shy, reserved nature and lack of self-confidence don't bring her any closer to the others, and the day the friendliest, most popular boy in class starts talking to her, everything changes for Sawako. By greeting her every morning, Kazehaya surely shows that people shouldn't be judged by their appearance.
