Something is punishing the inhabitants of the little colony of Roanoke... Beware, poor sinners.

1587, North Carolina, Agnès has reluctantly left England to follow Thomas, a clergyman to whom she is married, to Roanoke. He hopes for a better life, but there's nothing left of the first colony, and Agnès fears that the second will suffer the same fate, given the lack of resources, the harsh winter and the looming famine.

As the colony is hit by a wave of ritual murders, Agnes discovers her purpose: to find the monster and protect the small community. At least, until the settlers start talking about witchcraft and questioning the fact that Agnes has no children and seems to communicate with the dead.

As the murders escalate and the colony teeters on the brink of collapse, Agnès is forced to take considerable risks to save her life - or risk being burned at the stake.
